Un Certain Regard, the parallel selection to the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival 2024 that spotlights a certain kind of French and international cinema - young, lively, universalist, in the midst of formal research - has just unveiled the latest films in selection, and Gints Zilbalodis's Flow is one of them. Flow is the Latvian director 's second animated film after Elsewhere, released in 2019.
A stubborn, independent cat wakes up in a waterlogged world where all human life seems to have disappeared. The flood has ravaged the world. He finds refuge on a small boat with a group of other animals: a Lemur, a Labrador, a Capybara and a Bird. But getting along with them proves an even greater challenge than overcoming his fear of water! From now on, they'll all have to learn to overcome their differences and adapt to their new world.
"The characters in Flow, forced to live together on a makeshift boat in order to survive, have to put up with each other, help each other out, show courage, solidarity and intelligence. From hope to despair, from fear to wonder, from mistrust to friendship..." explains Gints Zilbalodis.
