Spectateurs ! by Arnaud Desplechin, in a special screening at the Cannes Festival 2024

"What is going to the movies? Why have we been going for over 100 years? I wanted to celebrate cinemas and their magic. So I followed the path of young Paul Dédalus, like a spectator's apprenticeship novel. We mixed memories, fiction and investigations... A torrent of images that sweeps us away."

These areArnaud Desplechin 's words to describe his new film, Spectateurs! which has just been selected for the Cannes 2024 Film Festival. But there's nothing to frighten the director, since he's at home in Cannes!

A Desplechin for every Cannes Festival! The French filmmaker has presented the vast majority of his films at this major cinema event - Frère et sœur in Official Competition in 2022, Tromperie in the Cannes Premières section in 2021, Roubaix, une lumière in Official Competition in 2019, Les Fantômes d'Ismaël opening the festival in 2017, and Trois Souvenirs de ma jeunesse, selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes, to name but a few.
