Tadam! The magic is about to happen again: Anne Hathaway will reprise her iconic role as Mia Thermopolis in the eagerly-awaited Princesse Malgré Elle 3. More than 20 years after the release of the second film, fans can finally look forward to the return of our favorite princess to the throne of Genovia.
But this time, Anne isn't just donning her crown; she's also taking on the role of producer via her company Somewhere Pictures. And to lead this new chapter, director Adele Lim, behind such hits as Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon, takes over from the late Garry Marshall, behind the first two installments of this cult saga.
On Instagram, the actress shared an ultra-nostalgic video, mixing clips from previous films with a smile-inducing message: "Miracles do happen. Back in Genovia with Adele Lim, Disney and Somewhere Pictures. The fairy tale continues." Now that's the kind of announcement that makes us jump for joy!
Other stars from the original cast are ready to return! Mandy Moore, the unforgettable Lana, the villain everyone loved to hate, and Sandra Oh, aka Deputy Director Gupta, are game for a comeback. And good news for fans: Chris Pine is him officially confirmed to reprise his role as Nicholas Devereaux, Mia's prince (and royal crush) in the second instalment.
And what about Queen Clarisse Rinaldi? Julie Andrews, our eternal Mary Poppins, had expressed interest in continuing the royal saga at the time, but the years and the loss of Garry Marshall may have tempered her enthusiasm... Could the grande dame of cinema change her mind and return for this third chapter?
One thing's for sure: the fairy tale is far from over. Off to Genovia!
