In a near-future Paris, the city is carved into three zones that separate people by social class. The artificial intelligence ALMA has reshaped policing, to the extent that its creator is murdered. Salia and Zem, two investigators who are polar opposites, are compelled to team up to crack a case that could upend the existing order.

With Chien 51, Cédric Jimenez adapts Laurent Gaudé’s dystopian novel into a futuristic crime-thriller universe. The film extends themes already present in the director’s body of work on BAC Nord and Novembre, pairing a criminal investigation with technological surveillance and social fractures. The film was screened as the closing title of the Venice Film Festival 2025, out of competition.

The ensemble brings together several actors already linked to Cédric Jimenez’s cinema, including Gilles Lellouche and Adèle Exarchopoulos. Joining the cast are Louis Garrel, Romain Duris, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Artus, Stéphane Bak, and Lala &ce. The original score is composed by Guillaume Roussel.

The film targets viewers drawn to dystopian storytelling, crime thrillers, and AI-driven fiction. Its plot unfolds a Paris transformed by surveillance technologies, in a society where social inequality shapes the urban landscape.
