The trailer reveals a quirky comedy in which the unpredictable Susan Cooper must improvise as a spy, despite her lack of experience and her clumsiness.
Spy will be broadcast on TF1 on August 24, 2025 at 9:10 pm.
Synopsis: Susan Cooper is a brilliant CIA analyst, relegated to the screen while she longs for action. When her partner is killed and another spy compromised, Susan volunteers to infiltrate a criminal network. With no sophisticated gadgets or glamorous cover, she has to improvise and prove she can save the world.
Spy hijacks the codes of the spy movie by focusing on an atypical character, far removed from the usual secret agent. Blending action and humor, the film plays on the contrast between the expectations of the genre and the comic awkwardness of its heroine.
Melissa McCarthy plays the lead role, surrounded by Jason Statham, Jude Law and Rose Byrne. Each actor brings his or her own special touch to this story, in which absurd situations follow one another at the pace of an action-packed plot.
The film should appeal to fans of light comedy and parody action films. Audiences who enjoyed Johnny English or Mes meilleures amies, also by Paul Feig, will find a similar tone of humor and improbable adventure.
Our opinion on Spy
When we think of a spy, we think of a handsome, tall, sexy man in a suit, looking a little angry, but still attractive. In reality, spies can also be women: fat, short, unobtrusive and clumsy. Melissa McCarthy, already seen and adored in My Best Friends, plays Susan Cooper, an assistant propelled to the head of an ultra-dangerous mission.
Expecting super-gadgets, all she gets is a bunch of bogus little objects. She thinks she'll look good in a ball gown, but is constantly laughed at. But no matter, Susan Cooper is as serious as they come, and as good at combat sports as she is, she's ready to amaze you. And give you a great time!
Melissa McCarthy is eminently likeable, and particularly at home in the role of crazy woman, and she's the source of Spy 's charm: the gags would be nothing without her and her outrageous acting. We just love her! Spy is therefore a fairly good comedy, worth more for its actress than for its direction as a whole - it's reminiscent of Mister Bean in Johnny English: it's a good thing there's comic talent to save unoriginal scripts!
Directed by Paul Feig, Spy was released in 2015 and stars Melissa McCarthy in an action-comedy full of twists and turns. Broadcast on TF1 on August 24, 2025, the film offers a humorous retelling of the spy movie.
