Carla Simón will chair the jury for short films and La Cinef at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, to be held from May 12 to 23.
The Spanish screenwriter and director will be joined by the South Korean actress and visual artist Park Ji-Min, the Iranian writer-director and producer Ali Asgari, the French actor and director Salim Kechiouche, and the Swedish director and screenwriter Magnus von Horn.
"A short film is a universe in its own right. In just a few minutes, it can leave a lasting mark. Born of complete freedom, driven by artistic risk and, above all, inhabited by a soul, it reconnects me with the essence of cinema and the exhilaration of firsts. Even for those who work in feature films, the short format remains a crucial space for experimentation and renewal. I am deeply honored to chair the Short Films Jury and La Cinef, and grateful for the opportunity to discover new voices and be transformed by them. Returning to Cannes is, once again, an adventure, a dream, and a privilege." said Carla Simón, upon the announcement of her nomination.
Together, they face the daunting task of awarding the Palme d’Or for the short film and the three La Cinef prizes, the Cannes Film Festival’s student-film selection, drawn from the 10 films in the short-film competition as well as the 19 films in the Cinef selection.
