On February 22, 2022, PlayStation unveiled the design of its latest next-generation virtual reality headset, the PS VR2, for the PS5. Transparent view, cinematic mode, broadcast functionality... and above all, a new price. We give you the lowdown!

Good news, perhaps, for gamers wanting to get their hands on the PS VR2... In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced a price cut for its new virtual reality headset. The Japanese manufacturer has reduced the price of the PS VR2 from €599.99 to €449.99. This price includes the VR headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones. Sony is also offering a version with the additional game Horizon Call of the Mountain at 449.99 euros.

Among the features unveiled at the headset's launch in 2022 is the new transparent view offered by the headset. With PSVR2, you can see your surroundings once the headset is on your eyes. A handy feature, especially when you're looking for your PSVR2 Sense controllers and already have the headset on your head, and made possible by the integrated front cameras at the touch of a button.

Another new feature is the ability to film yourself during gameplay broadcasts, simply by connecting a PS5 HD camera to the console. Handy when you're streaming on Twitch or similar... You'll also be able to create your own personalized gaming space, based on the room you're playing in and the surrounding furniture, thanks to the PSVR2 Sense controllers and integrated cameras. The headset analyzes the room you're playing in, so you can avoid bumping into furniture. The controllers also let you customize the space.

And finally, VR mode and cinematic mode, offering an interesting video format: 4000 x 2040 HDR (2000 x 2040 per eye) with a frame rate of 90 Hz/120 Hz for VR mode, and 1920×1080 HDR with frame rates of 24/60 Hz, and even 120 Hz for cinematic mode. The latter lets you use the PS5's user interface and system, as well as non-VR multimedia content and games. An orb-shaped headset, in keeping with the Japanese firm's latest model, to blend naturally into your living room.

Push the boundaries of virtual reality with PS VR2 :

A headset that, according to Sony,"takes virtual reality gaming into a new dimension" by offering"even more complete immersion, allowing gamers to immerse themselves in their favorite videogame worlds like never before". A headset that, thanks to the innovations brought by the PS5, also offers a unique experience made possible by"high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features and improved tracking", all with a single cable connected to the console.

This VR headset is thus compatible with 4K and HDR, offering"a 110-degree field of view", as well as"foveal rendering, guaranteeing a high-fidelity visual experience". In terms of resolution, count on a 2000 x 2040 display for each eye, thanks to its OLED screen. And the refresh rate is 90/120Hz. Another highlight of this little technological gem is the headset's controller tracking, based on cameras integrated into the VR headset, and capable of following you and your controller, without the need for an external camera.

Also new are sensory features, with technology that combines eye tracking, headset feedback - which"increases the sensory dimension of the player's actions tenfold" - and 3D audio with the VR2 Sense controller's functionalities. When it comes to headset feedback, you can expect unique vibrations, simulating the pulse of a character as it accelerates, the sensation of being brushed against as an object passes by your head, or the thrust of a vehicle as it accelerates. A new sensory dimension for even more intense immersion! What's more, a lens adjustment wheel has been added, as well as a slimmer design, for a slightly lower weight.

Note also that the headset installation process is also simplified, thanks to a single connection directly to your game console.
