Something to delight fans of FPS and sorcery! A few weeks ago, EA and Ascendant Studios lifted the veil on Immortals of Aveum, a single-player, magic-based first-person shooter due for release on PC (via EA app, Steam and theEpic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series on August 22, 2023. The game was shown at a PlayStation Showcase on May 24, and is now revealed one last time before its release at Summer Game Fest, with a final trailer!
Developed by Ascendant Studios and published by EA Originals, Immortals of Aveum offers an innovative single-player experience, with spell-based combat set in an original and captivating fantasy world.
In Immortals of Aveum, players will explore a magical world plagued by serious conflict, as Jak, a member of an elite order of warrior-mages. Battles, mixing action and strategy, will unfold at the frenetic pace typical of FPS games, with a new touch of magic. Jak will master three colors of magic (blue, green and red) to defeat his enemies with a series of well-placed attacks and counters. The Aveum universe, rich in unforgettable characters, offers intense action and spellbinding combat.
TheImmortals of Aveum campaign features an all-star cast, with Darren Barnet as Jak and Gina Torres as General Kirkan. Combining elements of first-person shooting and magic, Immortals of Aveum promises to be a unique and immersive experience for players.
Note that the Deluxe Edition offers additional pieces of equipment. EA Play Pro members will have access to the Deluxe Edition as soon as the game is released.

What to make of this game, which went somewhat incognito during the summer of 2023... ? Plenty of positive things overall, starting with its intuitive, easy-to-handle gameplay. A gameplay that even allows itself the luxury of being 100% fun, bordering on gruelling, and that's all we've come to expect from this opus through the use of magic! Magic that should appeal to all lovers of the mystic arts, with certain spells reminiscent of those used by the Marvel wizard, both in gesture and in the runes appearing in the air, producing shields, classic shots or bursts of fire.
As for the story, it promises some nice twists and turns that we didn't see coming (well, not all of them), even though we're thrown right into a narrative that we don't fully understand at first. It's a bit rough, but if you stick with it, you'll get the hang of it. It's neither too long nor too short, and the plot is sufficiently fast-paced to keep the player on the edge of his seat. And there are plenty of puzzles scattered around the map, promising hours of additional gameplay.
A rather well-written story, too. A special mention for the really gripping French-language version. In short, Immortals of Aveum is a highly enjoyable game, ideal for those who like their gameplay lively and a bit gritty. All that's left is for you to make up your own mind, folks!
