South of Midnight: the captivating game awarded at the Game Awards, coming soon to PS5 and Switch 2

The legends and folklore of the American South at the heart of a video game... Only the bravest will dare to face them in Compulsion Games' action-adventure South of Midnight, available on Xbox Series and PC since April 8, 2025.

At the 2025 Game Awards ceremony, Game Awards, Compulsion Games announced that their upcoming title will also be released on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2026. Additionally, South of Midnight received a notable accolade at the event: it was named the "Most Impactful Game" of the year!

Synopsis of South of Midnight:

" South of Midnight is a spellbinding third-person action-adventure game set in the Deep South of the United States. As Hazel, explore the myths and meet the creatures of Southern U.S. folklore in a macabre fantasy world. As fate takes its toll on her hometown, Hazel is on her way to becoming a Weaver: a magical healer of broken bonds and spirits. With her gifts, she'll face and master fearsome creatures, reconnect with a family past that haunts her, and hopefully find a place to call home."

In the American bayou, an ancient and powerful magic reveals itself to those who master its secrets... Giant animals, talking catfish and monsters from another world set the tone for this game of tradition and superstition. According to these first images, the game seems to be divided between combat, exploration and learning ancient magical powers.

Here’s a truly charming game, perfect for Xbox Series owners! South of Midnight is a standout success on all fronts. The art direction is especially striking—carefully crafted with a blend of sketches and stop-motion animation (notably in the opening sequence). A captivating introduction that will delight genre fans.

In terms of gameplay, it’s equally impressive. The game runs smoothly, and its mechanics—simple yet accessible—are highly effective. As you progress, the gameplay deepens, offering more attack options and introducing new ways to overcome foes. The only minor drawback is a relatively uniform overall structure—exploration, combat, a chase sequence, and a boss fight, before moving on to the next chapter.

Nevertheless, the overall experience remains excellent thanks to a compelling storyline, well-crafted and emotionally resonant, complemented by a fantastic soundtrack mixing jazz and soul. It’s a complete artistic package that gets straight to the point—and that’s exactly what we love! Ideal for adventure enthusiasts and anyone passionate about the tales and legends of the bayou. Definitely a game that deserves to be in everyone's collection!
