Named Game of the Year among its numerous accolades at the Game Awards, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive has solidified France’s distinct gaming flair on the global stage. Whether for its gripping storyline, mesmerizing aesthetics, or captivating soundtrack, this game has been celebrated as a true masterpiece for many reasons.
And now, you find yourself completely absorbed in the Clair Obscur universe, so much so that you might be tempted to step beyond the screen and immerse yourself directly into the game world. Believe it or not, you can catch glimpses of Light in real life. And as you might guess, it’s in Paris, known as the “City of Light” (yes indeed) that you can stroll along the roots of Expedition 33 and those who came before.
So, grab your beret, your striped shirt, and most importantly, your baguette, and head out to explore these real places that will have marked your adventure. For those who will come afterward!
The Eiffel Tower
Let's start with the most obvious reference: the iconic Iron Lady. Instantly recognizable even in the City of Light, its silhouette is etched into our collective memory:

The Arc de Triomphe
This is the second iconic Parisian monument featured in the game. The fractured arch remains quite recognizable.

The Place Vendôme
Before even reaching the fractured Arc de Triomphe, you might have noticed this soaring column that echoes the one in the prestigious Place Vendôme in Paris.

The Fountain of the Four Parts of the World
In the City of Light (that of the game), this lesser-known monument can be found just beneath the Arc de Triomphe. In Paris, it’s not atop the Champs-Elysées but in the 6th arrondissement, at the Garden of the Great Explorers, not far from the Luxembourg Gardens. A charming nod! Incidentally, it only depicts four continents!

The Wallace Fountains
Among the architectural elements occasionally featured in the game, you'll find the iconic Wallace Fountains, including a giant version that can be seen within the first few minutes of gameplay!

The Flower Market
In the game, atop the rooftops of Lumière, you may have noticed a distinctive triangular pavilion beneath which vibrant flowers are displayed. It's hard not to draw a connection to the historic Flower Market, located on Île de la Cité in Paris!

An Iconic Statue
In Lumière, a character who seems somewhat familiar can be seen wandering along one of the city's streets. A similar statue awaits you in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, specifically in the Jardin du Ranelagh: it’s the statue of Jean de La Fontaine.
Alexandre III Bridge
Once again, a subtle architectural detail emerges in Lumière’s streetscape: two female statues that echo the allegorical figures representing France that adorn the four pillars of the Alexandre III Bridge.
The Musée d'Orsay
Later in the game, you head towards Monoco Station. Once again, you're met with a familiar sight. Recognize it? That's right — it bears a striking resemblance to the Musée d'Orsay, which is actually... a former train station itself!

Haussmannian Buildings
It's impossible to overlook the architecture inspired by the iconic buildings of the French capital. You can even spot some domes scattered throughout Paris, particularly along Rue Réaumur! By the way, do you know how to distinguish the genuine Haussmann structures from the imposters?
