Design also likes to go outdoors. During the Paris Design Week, creativity spills from gallery walls into streets, squares, gardens and open spaces, where it faces the city and the people who pass through it. This new edition runs from September 10 to 19, 2026 and invites visitors to discover installations that change with light, movement, weather, or simply the angle of the observer. Some works emerge as you stroll, giving Paris a different rhythm for the duration of the event.
For this guide, head to the outdoor installations. Monumental or more discreet, participatory or contemplative, they occupy public space and play with their immediate surroundings. A square, a garden or a courtyard can thus become the backdrop for sculptural furniture, a lighting structure, or a work conceived for the scale of the site. The main appeal of these installations is precisely their ability to engage with what surrounds them, without disconnecting visitors from the rest of the city. A chance to discover design in motion along a walk, with Paris itself becoming part of the experience.
