It's a promising first for this small village in the northeast of the Seine-et-Marne (77): the Méry Animations association launches its very first Plant Festival on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the verdant setting of the Parc des Glycines de Méry-sur-Marne. On the agenda: plant swap, sales, exchanges of seeds and magazines, small gardening tools, and a variety of gardening activities. Free entry, village ambience guaranteed.
Méry-sur-Marne, a commune of 656 residents tucked along the Marne and about an hour from Paris via the P line (La Ferté-sous-Jouarre station), is one of those Briard villages that go out of their way to keep a lively local life all year round. The Parc des Glycines, a nearby leisure space recently upgraded with a children's playground and a fitness trail, offers a natural, family-friendly setting perfectly suited to this kind of event. One can easily picture tables laid out under the early May sun, with pots and seedlings passing from hand to hand.
The concept is both simple and inviting: you come with surplus seedlings, cuttings, bulbs, or even your old gardening magazines, and you leave with new varieties picked up from other participants. It’s a bit like a flea market, but tailored to the vegetable garden and flower beds. The vente de plantes is also possible for those who simply want to stock up without bringing any plants. The ateliers jardinage and planned activities will give both beginners and seasoned gardeners a few handy tips to tuck away.
This neighborhood gathering, organized by a village-based association such as Méry Animations, has something big-city fairs can’t always offer: a relaxed atmosphere, direct exchanges between neighbors and enthusiasts, and a generosity of knowledge sharing. It’s not the same as a professional plant fair with nurseries under tents. Here, the aim is more about transmission and social connection. For residents of the Pays Fertois and the areas around La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, it’s a smart, close-to-home event worth checking out.
The event takes place at Parc des Glycines, à Méry-sur-Marn e (77730), on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. For more information, you can reach the Méry Animations association directly via the Mairie de Méry-sur-Marne or by email at meryanimation@free.fr.
Our view: A charming village-led initiative, ideal for gardening enthusiasts in the north of Seine-et-Marne who want to enrich their spring gardens without traveling far. People come for the atmosphere as much as for the plants.
Who is it for: gardeners of all levels, families with children, residents of Méry-sur-Marne and the neighboring communes in the Pays Fertois, as well as anyone looking to swap plants in a friendly, nature-filled setting.
