The curtain closes, and the appointment begins. At 38 rue de Grenelle, in Paris’s 7th arrondissement, Le Barbier des Voyeurs welcomes men year-round for a haircut, a beard trim or a little time to themselves. What makes it unique? It brings hairdressing and treatments together in a theatrical setting, where large red curtains offer privacy during the service.
Behind the blue façade, wood paneling, sculptures and black armchairs come together to create a place with a strong personality. Velvet sets the tone, adding just the right amount of formality to turn a simple touch-up into a little ritual. Above all, these curtains serve a very practical purpose: drawn open or closed around the chair, they allow clients to adjust the level of privacy to suit their preferences. A welcome detail for anyone who prefers to be shaved out of sight.
The visit can start with a haircut, a traditional beard trim or an old-fashioned shave. It can also be extended with a facial, a manicure or a pedicure. The advantage of this fairly broad menu is that several services can be combined in one place. The salon also offers a drink with the appointment: tea, coffee or spirits, depending on your preference.
For a more in-depth experience, the spa offers rituals combining treatments and a soothing soundscape. One of these, Shamanic Whisper, includes cleansing, exfoliation, massage and a mask, using products from South America and a soundtrack designed to accompany the treatment. This ritual is still on the menu, at 65 euros. Hands and feet also have their own dedicated treatments, which can be combined with a haircut or booked separately.
During our visit, we opted for the trio of haircut, beard trim and “radiance” facial . The welcome set the tone: black tea, a few moments to settle in, then the chair and its scarlet curtain. The team took the time to look after us in the hushed atmosphere that accounts for much of the place’s charm.
The haircut and beard trim had been given attention right down to the finishing touches: tailored shampoos, massages, careful shaving and a touch of talcum powder. The facial treatment then extended the experience, with products applied and hot towels. When we left, we appreciated the feeling of clean, refreshed skin as much as the time spent simply letting someone else take care of us. That, too, is where the place comes into its own: making an appointment that is sometimes rushed between other commitments feel enjoyable.
According to the price list published by the establishment, a classic haircut costs 49 euros, a traditional beard trim 37 euros, and a three-day stubble trim 30 euros. The “radiance-boosting” facial is priced at 25 euros for 15 minutes. To round things off, a traditional manicure costs 40 euros for 30 minutes, and a pedicure 60 euros.
Appointments are booked online through the Barbier des Voyeurs website by selecting the Saint-Germain, rue de Grenelle salon. The shop also offers cosmetic products to take home and continue your grooming routine. The scissors stay at the salon; the good habits can come home with you.
