When you go to the Stade de France, it's always with a big event in mind: recently, the venue hosted the Rugby World Cup at the end of 2023, there was a time when it hosted the 1998 Football World Cup, and soon, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A popular venue for the biggest French and international stars - including Johnny Hallyday, Céline Dion, Tina Turner, AC/DC, Coldplay and Beyoncé - the Stade de France is undoubtedly a major player in the country's sporting and cultural life.
It all began with the 1998 Football World Cup in France: the Parc des Princes was deemed too small for the event, and a new stadium was planned. Inaugurated in January 1998 by French President Jacques Chirac, the Stade de France stands out in the urban landscape of Saint-Denis thanks to its shape and the immensity of the building. With a total capacity of over 80,000, the stadium was, more sombrely, the scene of the terrorist attacks of November 13, 2015.
To get there, take line 14 (stop Saint-Denis Pleyel, then walk 15 minutes), line 13 (towards Saint-Denis, stop Saint-Denis Porte de Paris), RER D (stop Stade de France - Saint-Denis) or RER B (stop La Plaine - Stade de France).
