The FIFA Club World Cup is a soccer competition created in 2000 in which only a few clubs are accepted: the continental champions of the six participating confederations, plus the host country's champion club. But in 2025, for the first time, the competition will change. Expanded to 32 clubs, it takes place between June 15 and July 13 in the United States. And among them is just one French representative, Paris-Saint-Germain.
In the first round, teams were divided into eight groups of four, with the top two advancing to the Round of 16. In all, 12 teams from Europe, 6 from South America, 4 from Africa, 4 from Asia, 4 from North America and one from Oceania competed to become the first Club World Champions of this modified edition.
PSG, in Group B , beat Atletico Madrid (4-0), Botafogo (0-1) and Seattle Sounders (2-0) to finish top of their group, despite losing to the Brazilian team. Paris-Saint-Germain thus qualified for the Round of 16, againstInter Miami, the club where Lionel Messi, a former player of the club, plays and whose history did not end on a happy note, a match that ended 4-0 for the Parisians.
The quarter-final against Bayern Munich proved to be a little more difficult than the others, with a match worthy of the Champions League. Although the match ended in a 2-0 victory for the Parisians, they did lose some feathers with two red cards that could have had an impact on the rest of the competition, had it not been for Pacho and Lucas Hernandez against Real Madrid. But far from it, the Parisians dominated their opponents with three goals in less than half an hour, surprising the footballing world, who had nonetheless expected a little more difficulty.
But this Paris-Saint-Germain seems unstoppable, and we're hoping this will be the case in the final against Chelsea, a match to be watched live this Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 9pm French time, at New York's MetLife Stadium. The competition is broadcast free of charge worldwide on DAZN, but the final will also be broadcast by TF1 this time. It's time for PSG to finally end this interminable season!
