Fancy a micro-adventure just outside Paris? Then we're off to Val-d'Oise to cross the Epte, with a solid hiking circuit and a canoeing section.

The Epte is a river over 100 kilometers long, flowing through the Seine-Maritime and Eure departments, but above all through the Val-d'Oise département! So we suggest you cross this part of the Paris region (and a little more, since the route crosses no less than three regions, Normandy, Hauts-de-France and Île-de-France) by embarking on the Grande Traversée de l'Epte, an itinerary devised by the hiking website En Nature Simone.

Leaving from Gisors, accessible from the Gare Saint-Lazare on the Transilien line J, you then follow a 10-kilometer hike to Dangu. Here, you'll board a canoe for no less than 17 kilometers of paddling on this long, tranquil river, as far as Bray-et-Lû. Finally, for the third leg of this journey, you'll have almost 30 kilometers of hiking left the next day, to complete this great crossing at Bonnières-sur-Seine!

The stages of the Grande Traversée de l'Epte :

  • Stage 1: Gisors to Dangu, about 10km of hiking
  • Stage 2: Dangu to Bray-et-Lû, approx. 17km by canoe-kayak
  • Stage 3: Bray-et-Lû (or Villarceaux, depending on your accommodation) to Bonnières-sur-Seine, approx. 30km by hiking

All the routes and topographical guides are available on theEn Nature Simone website. It's essential to reserve your canoe in advance for this expedition, which can be completed in two or three days depending on your walking ability. A great adventure to be experienced without even leaving the Île-de-France region (or almost)!
