A surprising turn of events in fencing! The upcoming European Championships in the discipline were originally scheduled to take place in Tallinn, Estonia, from June 16 to June 21, 2026. However, the organization has now been handed to France, specifically to the town of Antony in the Hauts-de-Seine department, just six months before the event. What prompted this sudden change? Estonia withdrew its visa approvals for Russian athletes, leading to the loss of the event's hosting rights.
And according to Rémy Delhomme, president of the FFE, speaking to l'Equipe, it was done "with a dossier put together in a weekend". That clearly shows that France is a land of fencing, a country that regularly hosts international competitions and even the European Championships 2028, already decided. See you at the Eric Tabarly Sports Complex!
Fans will be able to cheer on their favorite French athletes who shone at the latest Olympic Games. Meanwhile, Russian athletes will be allowed to take part in the competition under a neutral flag and without a national anthem. About 400 athletes and 40 nations are expected to compete in fencing at the highest level.
On the billetterie, the competition offers a weekly pass granting access to all six days and all events for 300 euros, but if you’d rather come for just one or two days, expect 55 euros for all of the day’s events, 23 euros for the qualifiers only, and 40 euros for the finals only.
