Grandes Heures de Sceaux 2026: a traditional, family Christmas at the château

A vast pocket of nature in the Hauts-de-Seine, listed as a Historic Monument, the Domaine départemental de Sceaux draws many Île-de-France residents in search of calm and greenery. More than 180 hectares of parkland, basins, cascades and canals, flowering trees, a château turned into a museum... The domain offers numerous attractions for Parisians and other Île-de-France residents.

The venue also draws visitors in with its events and regular fixtures. Exhibitions, parties, games, and walks: people of all ages enjoy this varied lineup throughout the year. Among the regular offerings on the estate are the Grandes Heures de Sceaux, a festive cultural occasion that takes place three times a year.

Each edition, the Domaine de Sceaux showcases cultural activities built around a theme from the era of one of its former owners. The event is staged as a nod to the fêtes organized by the Duchess of Maine in the 17th century.

From the weekend of December 11–13, 2026, the Sceaux estate shifts into festive mode with The Great Hours of Sceaux: Stories and Christmas Traditions of the 19th Century. For this new edition, year-end celebrations transform the château into a magical backdrop. Kids and adults alike can enjoy activities that bring to life 19th-century traditions and customs. Be sure to book in advance for the activities that interest you.

The lineup of activities for this new edition

Friday until 9pm: the castle opens its doors for a late-night session featuring readings of fairy tales and 19th-century texts
Saturday and Sunday: the castle opens from 10:30am, festively decorated in a 19th-century Christmas mood
Saturday, 2pm: guided tour exploring the history and traditions of 19th-century Christmas
Saturday, 6:30pm: concert by the Nouvelle Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine (free)
Sunday, 10am and continuously from 2pm to 4pm: creative workshops for ages 7 and up
Sunday, 4:30pm: family show "The Amazing Christmas of Mr. Scrooge" by Compagnie du Loup Gris. Suitable for ages 5 and up
From December 8 to January 3: festive castle decorations
