Shrek The Musical at the Folies Bergère with Chantal Ladesou

Shrek Le Musical heads to the Folies Bergère in Paris, from October 2, 2026 to January 17, 2027. Based on the DreamWorks animated film, this family musical lands in a new French production adapted and staged by Philippe Hersen.

Presented to mark the 25th anniversary of the first Shrek film, the show revisits the spoofed fairy-tale universe. It features the green ogre, his swamp, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquaad, and the fairy-tale characters exiled from their kingdoms. The production promises a score flavored with pop, rock, soul, and funk, in the vein of the Broadway musical.

The story follows Shrek, driven from his solitude when his swamp is swarmed by fairy-tale creatures chased by Lord Farquaad. To reclaim his land, he agrees to embark on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona, held captive in a dragon-guarded tower. His journey takes a surprising turn with the arrival of a loudmouthed donkey, an endlessly chatty companion who proves as irksome as indispensable.

The production is directed by Philippe Hersen, already involved in several French musical adaptations, including Flashdance, Madagascar, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Among the early casting news, Chantal Ladesou is announced to portray the Magic Mirror.

With its family-friendly musical format, Shrek The Musical aims in particular at audiences seeking a night out that blends musical theater, humor, and animated-film adaptations in Paris. The Folies Bergère, the historic venue in the 9th arrondissement, is hosting this slate of performances over several months.
