L’Épopée du Capitaine Scott – a family show at the Philharmonie de Paris

The story is based on Scott's second expedition, called Terra Nova, which took place between 1910 and 1912. Intended to reach the South Pole while conducting scientific observations, this landmark campaign in the history of exploration ended tragically when the British team disappeared on the return journey. The show offers a reconstruction combining acted scenes, narrated sequences, and musical excerpts, blending live music and narration for a cultural outing accessible to families.

Sabine Zovighian is responsible for the staging and radio production. The text is by Claire Richard, while Joan Cambon is responsible for the sound design and additional music. Janis Dagno designed the sets and props. The student actors of Prépa' Théâtre 93 participate in the acting and sound effects, bringing the expedition's situations to life. The orchestra is conducted by Pierre-Michel Durand, with the participation of violinist Norimi Lemaire. The ensemble is part of the hybrid forms of performance and creation 2025.

The proposal is part of the Philharmonie's programming for young audiences, in a movement that explores new forms of writing combining theater, music, and sound arts. By combining radio production and orchestral performance, the show offers an accessible approach to a major episode in the history of exploration and is in line with current trends in theater in Paris and contemporary dance, which has expanded to include transdisciplinary forms. Recorded for broadcast on La Balise, the Philharmonie's creative radio station, this production also opens up the discovery of today's audio practices.
