Le Plancher brings Perrine Le Querrec's novel to life at Théâtre Montparnasse in Paris, running until October 25, 2026. Nicolas Dégremont, with cello accompaniment, tells the story of Jeannot and his words carved into wood.

The Floor is on stage at the The Montparnasse Theatre in Paris, running until October 25, 2026. Nicolas Dégremont adapts Perrine Le Querrec’s novel and stars as Jean Crampilh-Broucaret, known as Jeannot, with Zoé Saubat on cello providing musical accompaniment.

The story opens with an outsider-art relic: a floorboard on which a Béarnais peasant carved 208 words in 1971, shortly after his mother's death. Found in a Pyrenean farmhouse, these inscriptions trace a life shaped by isolation and the difficulty of expressing his distress.

Frédéric Cherbœuf’s staging leans on a replica of this floorboard. The text and the music allow us to retrace Jeannot’s journey, giving center stage to the words he left behind. The piece thus probes the ties between creation, marginality, and the memory of a person who remained on the outside for a long time.

The show runs for 1 hour and 20 minutes. The final Paris performances run from Wednesday to Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 5:15 p.m. A €10 ticket is available for under-26s, only by phone or at the box office; other tickets are €20 or €30.
