How about a free evening at the Musée de l'Orangerie? This Saturday, June 16, 2018, the Musée de l'Orangerie offers a free evening around Monet's Water Lilies, with concert, guided tours and painting workshops. Only one condition, be between 18 and 30 years old!

Several times a year, the Musée de l'Orangerie reserves an evening for young people aged 18 to 30, with cool entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere. On Saturday, June 16, 2018, the museum takes us into the world ofMonet's Water Lilies, with concert, guided tours and painting workshops.

This night is a good opportunity to (re)visit the temporary exhibition Water Lilies, American Abstraction and the last Monet in a different atmosphere. The evening takes place in the 2nd basement of the Musée de l'Orangerie, in the rooms adjacent to the eight Water Lilies paintings from theOrangerie collection (out of the 250 painted by Monet). There are 20 works by artists of thecontemporary School of American Abstraction, including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still, Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, Philip Guston.

On the program of the free night at the Musée de l'Orangerie:

  • Commentary on the works, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm
    For three hours, students from the Louvre School, assisted by refugees who have been trained as lecturers, will present the works to young visitors. These mediators for a day, who come from different countries and have a variety of professional backgrounds, will come and share their views on the works on display, a wonderful cultural exchange!

  • Workshop on the theme of Water Lilies, from 7 pm to 9:30 pm
    Back to school! In the Museum's workshop room, you can create water lilies with pastels and collages that resonate with the works presented in the temporary exhibition!

  • Clarinet concert, from 9:45 to 10:30 pm
    For 45 minutes, the WATT group will bewitch the Water Lilies room with their clarinets. This quartet, composed of Jean Dousteyssier, Jean-Brice Godet, Antonin Tri Hoang and Julien Pontvianne, has imagined for the evening compositions inspired by the works of Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman... visible in the Water Lilies exhibition. American abstraction and the last Monet.
