Head to the Yvelines and the Island of Impressionists in Chatou for an evening poised to be both poetic and luminous. For its 6th edition, the Impressionist Lights Festival pays tribute to Claude Monet, marking a special year commemorating the centenary of his passing. On September 11 and 12, 2026, the Fournaise Shore Hamlet will open its doors for two free evenings, from 7:30 PM to 11 PM, themed "Monet, a Dream Garden".
Since its inception, this free festival has established itself as one of the must-attend cultural events marking the end of summer in Île-de-France. Each year, it encourages visitors to explore the Impressionist movement from a fresh perspective, blending live art, stunning lighting design, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Following the cabaret themes of its fifth edition, this year’s spotlight turns towards the water lilies and gardens of Giverny—an invitation to immerse yourself in the dreamy universe of the artist who captured light like no one else.
This program brings together various art forms centered around Claude Monet: an illuminated sound and light show that bathes the museum's facades in immersive projections, a dance performance inspired by the artist’s landscapes, and a lighting installation designed to transform the site into an enchanted garden after dark. Complementing these activities are exhibitions, along with a night-time craft market where visitors can browse between stalls in a lively, festive setting.
We especially appreciate the setting of the Hameau Fournaise, a place steeped in history where Renoir himself painted "Le Déjeuner des Cadreurs," an artwork displayed at the Musée d'Orsay, which has stood the test of time. The museum also preserves the memory of this golden era when the Impressionists would retreat here by the Seine to recharge their creative energies between paintings. It’s hard to imagine a more fitting backdrop for celebrating Monet’s centennial.
The site can be easily reached from Paris. The Chatou-Croissy train station, served by the RER A, allows visitors to reach the island within a few minutes on foot. For cycling enthusiasts, the banks of the Seine offer a delightful route from Saint-Germain-en-Laye or Rueil-Malmaison. Entry to the festival is free for all visitors, making it an ideal family outing or outing with friends for a charming outdoor September evening. All practical information is available on the official Musée Fournaise website and on the Chatou town site.
