The Musée Art Ludique comes to Gare Saint-Lazare: when will it reopen?

Closed for many years, we are still missing it so much... The Musée Art Ludique, originally set at the Cité de la Mode et du Design and closed in 2017 which has upset a lot of people. The fun place of art is to reopen in Paris. And not anywhere since it is the gare Saint-Lazare that will house this original museum in an area covering 1300sqm, just behind the big clock. 

Yet, the museum has us waiting. Initially expected to open in 2021, the Musée Art Ludique's opening date keeps on being pushed. In a tweet released in January 2023, the museum says "We (...) hope to welcome you by the end of the year for the museum's opening". So, can we expect this new place before 2024, or shall we wait a few more years?

But what is the Musée d'Art Ludique? This place of art shines a light on creative industries, drawing artists, designers, developers and more filmmakers who invent new universes and worlds. Comics, cinema, video games, animated movie, manga... Any material is good material, as long as they can reach a multi-generational audience and shine a light on visual art.

The museum involves superheroes as much as movie sets, video game universes, the creative movie process or comics... For instance, we loved the Justice League, DC Comics and Blue Sky’s Studio exhibitions that met an incredible success that each brought hundreds of thousands of visitors.

In this Musée Art Ludique 2.0, the big novelty will be the permanent and evolutive collection around “the history of art, from the 19^th century, with the great illustrators and cartoonists, to the birth of comics in Europe and the United-States, mangas in Japan and all the way to the animation”. In the meantime, and all year long, “introduction workshops” and “temporary exhibitions devoted to a studio, an artist or a special topic” are planned as well.

To make us wait, SNCF Gare & Connexion has released a map of the Musée Art Ludique in the Saint-Lazare railway station. A lovely rebirth we cannot wait to discover!
