The Palais de Tokyo invites you to discover its latest exhibition, Exposé.es, from February 17 to May 14, 2023. An original dive into the lives of HIV-positive people, as seen by artists.

A dive into the history of one of the most deadly viruses of all time and its influence on 20th century art... This is what the Palais de Tokyo offers you through its latest exhibition, Exposé.es, from February 17 to May 14, 2023. A collective exhibition inspired byElisabeth Lebovici's book, Ce que le sida m'a fait - Art et activisme à la fin du 20e siècle (What AIDS did to me - Art and activism at the end of the 20th century), highlighting art and artists who voluntarily expose themselves to "make this virus, this disease, this epidemic visible", and thus give a voice to those who have been exposed to the virus.

A virus that influences and questions "how the pulsations of desire, lack, anger, pain, memory and archive have made history. Recompose interrupted genealogies, federate communities... So many consequences, good or bad, have allowed the production of works, but especially pushed to the reflection on sexuality today, on the desire or how they have "anticipated certain issues of gender, class and race, as well as the unconscious of what is called today the validism, that is to say the construction of a standard on the "good health". An exhibition that also and above all makes the link between art, activism and the fight against the disease, themes that intertwine to give this production of works proposed here.

What does AIDS do to artists? What does it do to the exhibition? What has it changed in the consciences? In the society? In creation? A starting point that has inspired many artists and visual artists, placing the disease not as a subject, but as a "reading grid to reconsider a large number of artistic practices exposed to the epidemic.

An exhibition that, unlike a commemoration, "blurs temporalities, and carries a discourse in the present, asking artists to question from today their history and what has been transmitted to them from the past century. A way to imagine "new articulations between aesthetics and emancipation". To discover without waiting!
