Fortunately, in France, and more specifically in Paris, several museums exhibit the paintings, drawings and sculptures of Henri Matisse. No excuse, then: we have everything we need to discover or rediscover this fascinating artist.
Our artistic journey is divided into two paths: on the one hand, the museums ofmodern art with the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, and on the other, the Impressionist museums with the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée de l'Orangerie. Yes, Matisse was an astonishing artist, with a rich and diverse career!
So off we go to the Centre Pompidou, to admire Matisse's paintings and sculptures. The Beaubourg center owns and exhibits several hundred works by the artist, including the painting Deux danseurs, Jazz, the painter's self-portrait, the sculpture Nu assis, bras derrière le dos, La tristesse du Roi, Violoniste à la fenêtre, Nu bleu II, le Clown, l'Odalisque à la culotte rouge...
The Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris has far fewer works, but still enchants us with its room dedicated to Matisse, including the famous painting La Danse.
We're now heading for the Musée d'Orsay, where we can see several of the painter's iconic paintings. According to the current hangings, we can admire several nudes, studies, sculptures, portraits and landscapes created during the artist's Fauve and Impressionist periods. A must-see is Luxe, calme et volupté , as well as Figure assise par terre, Nymphe dans la forêt, Jeannette, Tiaré...
Finally, our stroll in Matisse's footsteps ends at the Musée de l'Orangerie, home to a dozen paintings, including Nu drapé étendu, Odalisque bleue, Les trois sœurs, le Boudoir...
