JR is back in Paris and isn’t exactly flying under the radar. With The Cave of Pont-Neuf, the artist turns the city’s oldest bridge into a vast mineral trompe-l’œil. A monumental illusion that grabs the eye, puzzles passersby, and gives Paris a new open-air backdrop. Here, people pause, take it in, photograph it—and above all try to figure out where the real ends and the image begins.
La Caverne du Pont-Neuf : JR's giant installation is under way in Paris — our photos
The Pont Neuf is continuing its metamorphosis. Led by JR, the oldest bridge in Paris is preparing to host La Caverne du Pont Neuf, a monumental installation conceived as an open-air immersive cave. Optical illusions, inflatable structures, and plays of light will transform the monument into a temporary mineral fault. A spectacular experience to be discovered from June 6 to 28, 2026, in the very heart of the capital. [Read more]
In the wake of this work, the Perrotin gallery, a stone's throw from Place des Vosges, presents Les Esquisses de la Caverne. An more intimate exhibition that pulls back the curtain on the project: research, drawings, experiments… everything that precedes the spectacular gesture. A shift in scale that takes you from the visual shock to the genesis itself, almost as if you were stepping into the artist's creative workshop.
