Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama and his collaborators take over the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, running from October 22, 2026 to February 28, 2027. Across all levels of the foundation, the artist presents his works and installations that tell the story and culture of Ghana.
The exhibition Le Temps des récoltes brings together new works created specifically for the Fondation Cartier, alongside emblematic installations from the universe of Ibrahim Mahama, reimagined for the show. These pieces are displayed throughout the Fondation's spaces, in a broad route that traces the artist's career.
Ibrahim Mahama draws inspiration from his homeland to shape his art. From colonial and postcolonial legacies to politics, labor and industry, to the movement of goods and the restitution of heritage, and even the idea of degrowth, his work seeks to illuminate Ghana—its distinctive culture and the country’s possible futures. In his pieces, the artist threads in moments such as the country’s independence, the 1966 coup, and the great factory that embodied the early president’s decentralization policy.
The artist also collaborates with local contemporary artists. These collaborations are showcased at the Foundation, illustrating the strength and power of art in culture.
Photography, visual works, paintings, screenprints and textile creations, installations: these artists tell the story of their country, spotlight the people who keep it thriving, and reflect the traditions and shifts that have shaped society... Through art, Ibrahim Mahama and his peers are investing in their culture and the future of their nation.
