Want to know everything about the languages of the world? Off to Mundolingua, the quirky museum of languages, language, and linguistics, tucked in the 6ème arrondissement of Paris, just steps from the Luxembourg Garden and the Saint-Sulpice Church.
One of the most curious museums that invites you to explore the different ways humans communicate, or how languages are built.
How do we make sounds? What is the origin of the Tower of Babel? Why is the Basque language so difficult to learn? These are just some of the questions to which the museum provides answers, to help you learn all you need to know about languages and linguistics. The idea? "Desacralize linguistics to raise public awareness of "linguadiversity", through games and interactive spaces".
A total of 170m2 of space awaits you! In the first zone, visitors are invited to discover how human sounds are made, and the place of language among other modes of communication, before moving on to "the history and geography of languages".
And among the museum’s treasures, a replica of the Rosetta Stone (the original is on display at the British Museum in London), a reproduction of one of the Dead Sea Scrolls, or one of the earliest dictionaries ever published. Crypto enthusiasts aren’t left out, as a genuine Enigma machine is also on display for visitors.
