Do you love dancing—whether in a nightclub, along the banks of the Seine, or in bars on Friday nights—to kick off the weekend? Guess what: your 19th-century ancestors were just as fond of dancing! Admittedly, the setting for these gatherings has changed a bit... How about stepping into the shoes of those partygoers from the 19th century by attending the bals historiques de l'Hôtel de la Marine?
Once a month, the iconic Parisian monument and the association Carnet de Bals invite us to join a themed ball. The program features music, dance, and delightful discoveries, drawing on those “evenings worthy of the grandest receptions” that could be hosted at the Hôtel de la Marine in the 19th century.
During these timeless evenings, you can attend a re-enactment of a themed historical ball, as it might have been given a few centuries ago.
These events take place in the Cour d'Honneur and the salons d'apparat. Please note: while the Cour d'Honneur ball is free and open to the public, you must purchase a night-time ticket to attend the ball in the salons d'apparat.
Want to join the party and enjoy these historic balls? Here's the program for upcoming evenings at theHôtel de la Marine:
Costumes from the era aren’t mandatory... But imagine the elegance of gliding through the monument’s salons in a long gown or a 19th‑century suit! Here’s an unusual activity to try with friends or with your other half.
