The Jacquemart-André Museum is one of the most beautiful museums in Paris, yet it remains less well known than its colleagues the Louvre, the Orsay Museum or the Pompidou Center. Nestled in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, this private museum houses the private collection of the Jacquemart-André couple : there are some treasures signed Uccello, Mantegna, Botticelli, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Fragonard, Reynolds...
One can admire mainly the works of French, Italian and Flemish painters, but also some paintings and sculptures of English and Dutch artists. The Jacquemart-André museum belongs to the Institut de France, which has entrusted its operation to the Culturespace group, which also owns theAtelier des Lumières in Paris.
This museum makes us dream with its paintings and sculptures of art, but also with its temporary exhibitions that allow us to (re)discover great artists.
Unfortunately, for a whole year, we will have to give up enjoying these works: the Jacquemart-André museum closes its doors from August 1, 2023 to September 1, 2024, for important restoration works, indicates the art place on its website. Among the works on the program are the restoration of thedouble-flight staircase and the dining room, and a greening of the museum's courtyard, to give it back its former appearance.
The ceiling painted by Giambattista Tiepolo should also be restored to its former glory, and a " campaign to refurbish the museum will also be carried out, including the kitchen of the Jacquemart-André café as well as the general accessibility of the site for people with reduced mobility," the museum tells us.
The museum will be back in operation in 2024, with refurbished spaces, for the comfort of visitors and better preservation of the works on display.
To enjoy the museum before it closes, take a look at the program of the Jacquemart-André museum.
