Discover the history of the discreet Gare des Invalides on an unusual guided tour

In the 7th arrondissement, the name Invalides evokes the eponymous Hôtel, home to the Musée de l'Armée and Napoleon's tomb, among other buildings. It's also the name given to the railway station just across the street, a place steeped in history that few know anything about!

With its entrance directly from the banks of the Seine, under the Alexandre III bridge, the Gare des Invalides is almost invisible when you're strolling through the neighborhood. Yet since 1900, when it was opened, it has been put to many uses, including serving the Paris suburbs and even the main lines to Normandy!

Inaugurated for the1900 Universal Exhibition, Gare des Invalides became Air France'sParis terminal in 1946, serving Orly and Le Bourget airports. Since 1979, the station has been served by line C of the RER, which takes passengers from Paris to the suburbs (petite et grande couronne). It's the departure and arrival point for the means of transport serving an airport. In this case, the Invalides terminal has been serving Orly and Le Bourget airports since 1946.
