Paris Design Week 2026: six leading designers reinvent ancestral paper at the Hôtel de la Marine

After the monumental four-poster bed from Uchronia in 2024, then the maze imagined by Jérémy Pradier-Jeauneau in 2025, the Hôtel de la Marine once again shifts its scene for Paris Design Week. From September 10–27, 2026, the Concorde square monument hosts HANJIMANIA, an exhibition devoted to hanji, the traditional Korean paper crafted for over a thousand years from mulberry fibers.

Curated by Catherine Lurault and An Kang Eun, the exhibition brings together six figures from French design and architecture with Korean artists and masters. Pierre Yovanovitch, Constance Guisset, Aline Asmar d’Amman, Studio KO, Harry Nuriev, and Jérémy Pradier-Jeauneau have each created a work around this material — delicate, durable, and capable of filtering light.

Lamps, furniture, and sculptural forms should compose a setting where the paper becomes supple, pleated, or almost architectural. Bloom, by Constance Guisset, unfolds like a flower around a wooden arm, while Studio KO’s Aube lamp pairs two hanji sheets with an arch frame and a granite base. Pierre Yovanovitch contrasts the paper’s soft luminosity with carved wood and blue-lacquered metal in Lili. More organic, the Artemis ensemble by Jérémy Pradier-Jeauneau blends a chair, weaving, pleated paper, and blushing deer horn.

In charge of the artistic direction and scenography as well, Jérémy Pradier-Jeauneau orchestrates the dialogue between French contemporary creation and Korean know-how. Co-organized with North Gyeongsang Province in South Korea, HANJIMANIA runs during Paris Design Week and the European Heritage Days, as part of the 140th anniversary of France–Korea diplomatic relations.
