Take an eccentric artist, a historic barge and a healthy dose of casual tenderness, and you've got Le Mignonisme en Seine, thefree exhibition by Philippe Katerine that's causing a stir on the quays of Clichy, from Thursday to Saturday, until July 31, 2025.
After taking over Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in 2022 and the Pavillon Vendôme the following year, the artist/singer's pink bonshommes are coming to Hauts-de-Seine (92). The setting? The barge Touta, an old water lady built in 1919 to designs by Le Corbusier, which has seen the likes of the 1937 Universal Exhibition, the Thalassa TV series, and now... Mignonisme! Thanks to a carte blanche as part of the CAPS Festival 2025 (now over), Katerine set down his suitcases full of drawings and gently zany installations.
On the hull, an outdoor installation sets the scene. Inside, in the hold, it's a plunge into the world of Mignonisme: a free, naïve, slightly absurd but always delicately human trend imagined by the artist. Here we discover a previously unseen selection of creations, sometimes fragile, often touching, but always typically "Katerinian".
It's not a monumental exhibition, but rather a joyful breath of fresh air, a funny and touching detour. Here, art is viewed with a smile.
