He is one of the most famous American photographers, and a key artist of the 20th century. His style helped change the history of photography, making it a modern art form with its own codes. The Maison Européenne de la Photographie pays tribute to Edward Weston, with the exhibition Modernité Révélée, presented from October 15, 2025 to January 25, 2026.
This exhibition brings together over a hundred vintage prints from the collection of the Wilson Centre for Photography. Here you can admire some of the artist's most emblematic images, works that redefined photography. Some of these photographs have never before been shown in Paris!
Edward Weston began photography at the very beginning of the 20th century. The fashion at the time was for a pictorialist style, based on the codes of painting. Edward Weston, for his part, gradually detached himself from these old models, preferring a more simplified, more direct image, giving pride of place to light and direct lines. He found inspiration in everyday objects, but also in bodies, which he sought to immortalize with precision and realism.
The exhibition shows this evolution, the photographer's favorite subjects, and how the world of photography is gradually changing under the influence of this unique artist.
The exhibition is complemented by other important pictorialist works by Annie Brigman, Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen. In this way, the two photographic genres are brought face to face, and visitors can see all the differences between them.
Photography fans can look forward to meeting a great artist at MEP in October.
