More commonly known as the MEP, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie opened in 1996, under the impetus of theParis Audiovisuel association and with the support of Jacques Chirac, then Mayor of Paris. Located on rue de Fourcy in theHôtel Hénault, a private mansion in the 4th arrondissement, it is one of the Marais' cultural venues where each exhibition cultivates, enriches and sensitizes its viewer.
The MEP not only has several floors on which photo exhibitions are hung, but also a large library with over 36,00 books that can be consulted on site. There's also a café and a specialized bookshop, where you can pick up books on the latest exhibitions. Since 1996, the MEP has exhibited work by some of the world's leading photographers, from Robert Frank and Irving Penn to Martin Parr, Andy Warhol and Henri Cartier-Bresson...
As a family, you'll love coming to the MEP to take part in a creative workshop, a family guided tour or one of the courses and philosophy workshops organized especially for young visitors.
The MEP is open from Wednesday to Sunday, and charges €13 for full admission and €8 to €10 for reduced admission. Children under 8 and disabled visitors also get free admission.
Enter the Maison Européenne de la Photographie via rue de Fourcy, and take metro line 1 (Saint-Paul station), line 7 (Pont-Marie station) or line 11 (Hôtel de Ville station).
