Nestled in the heart of the Grands Boulevards, in 2024 theÉcole des Arts Joailliers moved into theHôtel de Mercy-Argenteau, an 18th-century mansion listed as a Monument Historique. A veritable neoclassical gem built in 1778, this carefully preserved building offers a monumental setting: ashlar facades, grand staircase, opulent salons with gilded woodwork and a monumental Louis XVI-style reception room, once inhabited by figures such as Count de Mercy-Argenteau, an Austrian diplomat and advisor to Marie-Antoinette.
Founded with the support of Van Cleef & Arpels, this little treasure trove has been refurbished in a refined style to create a luminous atmosphere. Over an area of 1100 m2, the School regularly hosts superb free exhibitions in its Salle des Fêtes, showcasing historic jewels and special skills . Conferences, practical and theoretical courses, especially for children, are also organized to introduce everyone to the world of jewelry.
A 4000-book library and the Escarboucle, a specialized bookshop, complete the museum's offering, dedicated to the art of jewelry and jewelry-making know-how. The program is open to all - neophytes, students, enthusiasts and families - and admission is free. It's the ideal way to discover the many facets of this art form, in a historic setting with a scenography designed to enhance each piece on display.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Access to exhibitions is free, but must be booked in advance, while workshops are chargeable. The museum is accessible on metro lines 8 and 9, getting off at Richelieu-Drouot or Grands Boulevards.
