A peculiar luminous structure is intriguing passersby in the Cour d’Honneur du Palais-Royal. No, this isn’t a new set for a series, nor a piece dropped there by accident during the night. On the 27 and 28 May 2026, the renowned Paris venue hosts a installation designed as an immersive and contemplative experience, in connection with the international campaign "Light on, time off." by Diptyque.
The idea is to draw visitors into a brief sensory experience, inspired by roughly 50 hours of candle burning, right in the heart of one of Paris’s most photographed spots.
Pop-up stores to discover in Paris: ephemeral and experiential boutiques
Are you a fan of new concepts? You won't be disappointed with the number of pop-up stores of all kinds that abound in the capital. Fashion, jewelry & accessories, beauty & sports, home decor, i-tech or food, there's no shortage of ideas and inspiration to pique everyone's interest. [Read more]
The tour lasts about ten minutes. On site, visitors pass through a space where light, sound, and scent mingle. At the center of the installation, a film stages the flame, the matter in transformation, and the sense of time slowing down.
The experience is also olfactory: several fragrances drift through the space, including Fig Tree, Berries, Hookah and Wood Fire. All of it forms a kind of sensory bubble, visible day and night, in the heart of the Palais-Royal.
Visitors don’t come for the exhibition itself so much as for the ambiance, the light, and the sense of being briefly cut off from the bustle of Paris.
The installation opens to the public on May 27 and 28, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m., in the Cour d’Honneur of the Palais-Royal, Paris 1st.
Admission is free, but access is by reservation, while places last. It is therefore advisable to book a time slot in advance. Walk-ins and last-minute visitors can also try their luck on site: if spaces become available, additional seats may be offered.
We strongly advise visitors to come prepared to cope with the heat—water, a hat, or anything that helps prevent this poetic interlude from turning into a slow roast.
So no, this isn’t a mysterious box set there for decoration, but rather a short temporary sensory journey accessible until May 28.
