The Saint-Denis Basilica stands as one of the most significant cultural landmarks in the Seine-Saint-Denis department. This stunning Gothic cathedral is not only the final resting place of many French kings and queens, but also a revered national monument rich in history. As you step inside its majestic walls, admire the vibrant stained glass windows, intricate sculptures, and soak in the serene atmosphere that makes this site a true gem of French heritage, bearing witness to over a thousand years of history. Here, you can explore the tombs of French royalty or simply enjoy a peaceful walk through the Basilica's gardens, which are often overlooked compared to the impressive building itself!
For the 2026 edition of Rendez-vous aux jardins, come explore the medieval-inspired garden tucked behind the Saint-Denis Basilica, open to the public on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 2026. This little-known, hidden space will welcome visitors for the occasion.
Usually visible only from the church grounds, you’ll be free to wander this garden at your own pace, discovering an array of flowers, plants and trees, with a breathtaking view over the basilica’s apse.
If you’d like to dive deeper, guided French tours are also available: you’ll stroll among medicinal herbs, symbolic blooms and rare species, guided by an expert who will reveal the garden’s uses, symbols and secrets.
