Walk: Parc de la Croix du Bois in Voisins-le-Bretonneux, a hidden gem between nature and history

With its symmetrically laid-out garden, stepped terrace and small woods, La Croix du Bois is as beautiful as some of the gardens of the big boot. For the record, its name comes from a large cross at the edge of the wood. Today, its mysterious charm is only perceptible from Magny-les-Hameaux. The park is also home to a dwelling house, formerly a hunting lodge built in 1906. Enlarged in 1914, its Italian-inspired garden makes it a remarkable site.

• La Croix du Bois rose garden: Designed by landscape architect Daniel SIMON, this rose garden stands out for its overall composition. Roses are grouped according to their chromatic affinities, creating an evolving show of colors through the seasons. Botanical enthusiasts will be delighted to contemplate over 1100 rosebushes of 62 different varieties.

• Sculptures and relics: the former owner, who specialized in industrial molding, placed several sculptures around the house and throughout the garden, leading to a majestic stone kiosk at the far end. The statues embody the four seasons, and one of them is unfortunately decapitated. Both the kiosk and the garden section are inspired by the Italian style.
