While we're all familiar with the Chinese quarters of the 13th arrondissement or Belleville, we've rarely heard of the Vietnamese quarter, located in the 5th arrondissement. Here's your chance to discover it on an unusual guided tour!

A historic district for the Vietnamese community in Paris, the 5th arrondissement has been home to the first generations of Vietnamese students since the 1960s, as well as to their shared culture, cuisine and language.

In the 70's and 80's, France welcomed many refugees from theformer Indochina (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam). More than 145,000 people fled their country for political reasons: the Vietnam War, the genocide perpetrated in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge, forced labor in Communist Laos, not to mention the various occupations these countries suffered. From generation to generation, the heritage of Vietnamese culture lives on in the 5th arrondissement, with typical restaurants, bookshops, associations...

Why visit the 5th arrondissement and not the 13th if you want to discover Paris's Vietnamese neighborhood? Quite simply because the 13th is "the Chinese neighborhood," explains Donatien Schramm, the guide who will take you on a journey to discover Vietnamese culture in Paris.

Combining cinematographic and literary references, the guide offers a complete overview of Vietnamese heritage in Paris, including the discovery ofspecialized grocery stores where you can find certain foods that are hard to find elsewhere in the capital, and the various specialties of this gastronomy... And tells the story of the families and siblings who brought a piece of their culture to Paris.

This 2.5-hour guided tour costs €14 per person, and is recommended for children aged 9 and over. Meet at the exit of the Maubert-Mutualité metro station for the start of this tour, which will end between Place Monge and Place du Marché des Patriarches. A great way to discover one of the capital's hidden facets.

And so you don't miss a thing, the guide will send you all the addresses you discover during the tour once it's over.
