Reading is often seen as a quiet, solitary activity—an intimate moment between the book and the reader. But the Nuits de la Lecture 2026 challenge this perception. Every January, this cultural event transforms libraries, bookstores, schools, and numerous public spaces into temporary stages where books come alive through spoken word.
Organized by the National Book Center, these evenings feature a wide range of activities: book readings, literary discussions, writing workshops, artistic performances, and word games… The goal is straightforward: ignite a passion for reading—but in a friendly, welcoming environment where everyone feels at home.
Whether with family, friends, or on your own, there’s always a spot, a pace, or a story that suits everyone. Kids lose themselves in fairy tales, adults reconnect with poetry or fiction, and the curious venture into new literary genres.
At the writing school Les Mots, located in Paris's 5th arrondissement, the next event is scheduled for January 22, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. It will feature a creative writing workshop followed by a reading. All you need to do is register. It's the perfect opportunity to spark a passion for writing in budding authors!
For an evening immersed in literature and candlelight, the Les Mots school invites you to read, write, and let your creativity soar. After some writing prompts inspired by captivating readings, participants are welcome to share their work on stage—creating spontaneous, poetic, often humorous, and always moving moments.
At Les Mots, where conversations are just as important as the texts, the evening will continue with drinks, offering a different kind of opportunity to connect and enjoy each other's company.
