Each winter, the Nuits de la Lecture bring together thousands of book lovers, young and old, for a national event celebrating live literature. Organized by the National Book Center, this gathering encourages everyone to (re)discover the joy of reading in a joyful and accessible way.
Across France, thousands of events unfold simultaneously: musical readings, author meet-and-greets, performances, writing workshops, and book-themed games. Libraries and bookstores often stay open until midnight, or even later, to bring books to life in new ways.
Similarly, museums and historic landmarks are also open to visitors, such as the Victor Hugo House on Place des Vosges, which welcomes readers of all ages. On January 24th, at 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 3:30 PM, curious visitors—both young (from age 8) and old—can participate in engaging theatrical reading workshops.
Note: Registration in advance is required!
Profiles of children and their families Inspired by "Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo, "The Kid" by Véronique Olmy, "La Capucine" by Marie Desplechin, and "The Millennium Forest" by Jirô Taniguchi. A multi-voice reading workshop, featuring children and adults, brought to life through dramatization by Sabine and Ethel of La Compagnie Les Abrités as part of the Nights of Reading.
The event will unfold in two stages: first, a prep session in the library where roles are assigned, and snippets are practiced through playful voice exercises; then, the reading session takes place in the museum's Red Room, just steps away from the unexpectedly engaged visitors. The excerpts, rich with emotion, explore the theme "Cities and Countryside."
