Much like a cultural festival, the Nuits de la Lecture have become a highly anticipated event for book lovers. Held every winter, this national event aims to celebrate the book and reading as sources of joy, curiosity, and creativity. Over several evenings, libraries, media centers, bookstores, schools, and other cultural venues across cities open their doors to the public for varied activities, often free of charge.
On the agenda: live read-alongs, panel discussions with writers, children’s workshops, book clubs, performances inspired by novels and poetry, artistic showcases, and unique meet-and-greets. The goal is to make literature engaging and accessible for everyone—whether you're a dedicated reader or just curious to explore.
On January 23rd, the Paris Sewers Museum will make its debut in the spotlight by hosting special evening tours to celebrate the Night of Reading 2026. Visitors can join guided nocturnal visits (from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and 8 PM to 9 PM), accompanied by an unusual reading experience—all available through ticket registration.
The Paris Sewer Museum offers a one-of-a-kind experience during the Nights of Reading. This special evening event features four guided tours that explore the city's vast sanitation network through the eyes of Victor Hugo. Visitors will immerse themselves in the captivating world of Parisian sewers, soaking in the atmosphere that inspired the author of "Les Misérables."
This unique tour takes you through 500 meters of underground museum galleries, offering a fascinating glimpse into the hidden world beneath the city. Participants will immerse themselves in the history of Paris's sewer system, exploring its evolution over the centuries and understanding its crucial role in shaping the metropolis. This evening visit promises a one-of-a-kind experience that blends history, literature, and urban engineering—all set within the mysterious and captivating depths of Paris's underground realm.
