No, we didn't (unfortunately) make an express return trip to Australia to try out Hardware Société Melbourne... In fact, all you have to do is go to the 18th arrondissement of the capital, just behind the Sacré Cœur, to discover Hardware Société Paris, Hardware Société Melbourne's little sister.
Mad lovers of Paris, Di and Will Keser, the owners of the Australian café, indeed decided to set up shop in the capital, in April 2016, importing a breath of freshness, conviviality and gourmet goodness made in Oz!
In this cozy café, with its bright, warm decor, you can enjoy a continuous service of dishes that will make your taste buds go wild.
And I might as well tell you right now, but at Hardware Société Paris, there's something for everyone. Whether you're a sweet or savoury eater, carnivore, vegetarian or even gluten intolerant, you're bound to find what you're looking for!
There's no brunch here, so you can enjoy breakfast in the middle of the afternoon or a savory dish as soon as it opens, every day from Wednesday to Monday.
Personally, we recommend one of the house staples, the sensational French toast topped with coffee-infused pear, praline cheesecake and spiced blueberry compote (13.50€). Simply stunning!
Alternatively, opt for the must-try oeufs cocottes or the bircher, which features quince poached in saffron and vanilla, with a raspberry and pistachio compote.
If you're more of a savory person, then let yourself be tempted by grilled mushrooms. This vegetarian dish unveils a pan-fried mushroom with herbs, accompanied by Brillat-Savarin cheese, pumpkin bread and eggs cooked at 64 degrees (€14.50).
Also on the menu of this bilingual menu? Pork belly & fried eggs for carnivores, or The Great Aussie Chicken Parma (mashed chicken cutlet, ham, crushed tomatoes, home fries and broccoli and cauliflower salads).
To accompany these dishes, La Maison serves a range of hot beverages. For coffee, the fine team offers Padre coffee - popular in Melbourne - and imported weekly from Australia. Hardware Société Paris also uses a variety of French roasters.
In the end, you can choose between Padre's café au lait, the must-have Latte, Flat White or Cappuccino, as well as the cold brew or homemade chai latte.
For tea fans, succumb to the Matcha Maiden green tea latte. And like all good coffee shops, Hardware Société Paris sublimates our hot drinks with Latte Art.
The only problem is, once you're at Hardware Société Paris, you don't want to leave! What's more, on weekends, you'll have to be patient, as there's a long queue outside to get into the café," confides room manager Marine.
