A literary barge, Nanna, has moored at the foot of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. An ideal spot on the banks of the Seine to read a few books, attend events, and enjoy a drink!

A new péniche has docked on the banks of the Seine near the cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris since May 2026, and it’s open every day from noon! The Artflux group is banking this time on a cultural and literary boat, following in the footsteps of urban art at Fluctuart, contemporary photography at the Quai de la Photo, or the Son de la Terre jazz.

Designed as a living littéraire space housing nearly 5,000 titles, the barge named NANNA is set to offer a broad collection spanning contemporary literature, the great French and international classics, poetry, philosophy, travel writing, the visual arts, and comics.

True space of knowledge and freedom, the barge’s hold feels like a vast library where all books, second-hand, are available in open access, in a trust-based ethos where everyone can consult them on site, borrow at will, and even drop off new titles in turn—but remember to play along!

Occasionally, this floating bar’s collection will keep evolving, so you’re warmly invited to bring along any duplicates you have and leave them on the péniche to fill the library shelves. You can settle into sofas or high stools to read in a calm atmosphere.

On the two decks, there's a bar where you can order drinks before settling in to read or simply sip. A wide selection of wines and cocktails (€14) is on offer, not to mention hot beverages when the weather isn't kind, all with a superb view of the cathedral right opposite. A food offer to share is added to the list, but keep in mind the barge has just opened and is still in its test run until early June!

As for the programming of the barge, it promises to be rich and varied, and you can check it every month on their site! Book launches, literary speed dating, signings, author encounters, writing workshops, podcast recordings, book club — dizaine de rendez-vous par mois in the long run will animate NANNA and spark conversations between authors and readers in a space designed for them, in a calm and welcoming atmosphere by day and festive by night, with cocktails in hand, indoors or on the terrace when the weather is nice.

Since the library is freely accessible, it’s perfectly fine to drop in for a drink at this kind of place. To find the barge, head to Port de Montebello, right opposite the cathedral, and it’s the second barge past Pont au Double (for now there’s no name on it, but you should spot it easily)!

What could be better for a literary space than the surroundings of the Latin Quarter, with an exceptional view at the foot of Notre-Dame de Paris?
