"You're in luck, my favorite café in Montigny is open today", a passer-by told me when I asked her where to have a coffee during my trip to Montigny-sur-Loing. In the ruelle des Cormiers, parallel to the Place de la Mairie in Montigny, you'll find Le Petit Cormier, a charming café that's a must-visit at any time of day.
As soon as you walk through the door, you enter the café's small boutique, which offers a wide range of Moroccan handicrafts, purchased and sourced from local merchants. Tableware, candles, carpets, bags, foutas, jewelry and other small handicrafts add a warm atmosphere to the place, and it's also a great opportunity to pick up some original gift ideas!
At the far end of the room, Le Petit Cormier exhibits local artists in its tiny "pocket handkerchief" gallery. Place your order at the small bar, and choose from a range of coffees, teas, herbal teas and cold drinks (homemade lemonade, organic syrups, fruit juices...). For those with a sweet tooth, Le Petit Cormier serves sorbets and ice creams from the Moret-sur-Loing artisan ice-cream maker, as well as small artisan pastries. Then it's on to the highlight of the café: the magnificent outdoor terrace, shady, bright and, above all, very green, as it's located in a very green part of the café!
