Right in the heart of the 2ᵉ arrondissement of Paris, the Rivié at the Hoxton restaurant hides one of those secret terraces you don’t stumble upon by accident. Nestled in an inner courtyard away from the noise, it’s the kind of spot you hesitate to share… then hit send to your closest contacts. Open daily from 7 a.m. to midnight, it welcomes you from the first warm days.
You have to walk through the hall of the Hoxton Paris, this hotel opened in 2017 in the Montorgueil district, to stumble upon this sunny courtyard with its skylight and green plants. Time slows down here, a welcome change from boulevard terraces where you eat to the sound of honking. It's clearly the kind of place where you settle in for an hour and end up staying three.
On the culinary side, Rivié leans on simple ingredients treated with care, with a menu that shifts with the seasons. We tasted several dishes during a lunch service, and overall it holds up. For a shareable appetizer, the guacamole and bread set the tone: generous and efficient.
The leeks vinaigrette arrive with seaweed and a siphon of warm mayonnaise, a neat presentation for a melt-in-the-mouth starter that’s well balanced.
The onion-confit ravioli in its bisque pleasantly surprises, offering a depth of flavor you might not have anticipated.
As a main course, the Octopus Pommes Anna dish stands out for its presentation and texture: the octopus is wonderfully tender, and the spinach purée adds a touch of freshness.
The roasted sweet potato (feta, fried onions, chives, herb sauce) is aimed at vegetarians with a truly generous, flavorful dish. Meat lovers and fans of fine cuts will also find their match with the ribeye or the pulled lamb shoulder for evenings when you want to linger.
We wrapped up with the floating island (vanilla custard, popping candy), a surefire crowd-pleaser that truly crackles on the palate, and the praline choux pastry (tonka whipped cream, hazelnuts, hibiscus gel), a touch on the small side for our taste but well executed. The menu also features a lemon tart with French meringue, a carrot cake with cream cheese and quatre épices, or churros with diplomat cream for those craving a comforting finish.
At the bar, the menu showcases signature cocktails with precise balance: French Collins, Sunset Spritz, Spicy Paloma, Yuzu Smash. Classics reimagined with a deft touch, ideal as the light begins to fade over the courtyard.
On weekends, it's time for a brunch from 12 pm to 4 pm, offered in two formats: Classic for purists and Tipsy for those who want to prolong the experience with a few drinks. You settle in without planning anything afterward—that's clearly the idea.
This spot is perfect for those seeking a discreet, quiet address away from the crowded terraces. We particularly appreciate the sunlit glass roof and the greenery, the relaxed vibe, and the option to settle in with a coffee or a laptop without feeling pressed for time. It’s also a solid choice for a working lunch or a weekend brunch with friends.
The Rivié at Hoxton Paris is located at 30-32 rue du Sentier in Paris's 2nd arrondissement, just a short stroll from Bonne Nouvelle station (lines 8 and 9) or Sentier (line 3). The terrace opens daily from 7 a.m. to midnight, and brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For all details and reservations, visit the Hoxton Paris website.
