We're switching from ceramic cafés to painting cafés! Since June, the Père-Lachaise cemetery has had a new neighbor, the Créa'Café, a cozycoffee shop designed by Louise where the watchword is painting, on canvas as well as on fabric. In a delightfully retro and nostalgic atmosphere with vintage décor from the 90s and 2000s, you can settle in for a 2.5-hour workshop, accompanied by a hot drink and armed with your paintbrush!
With her artistic soul, Louise was a long-time member of a drawing and painting studio and worked in a café, which was the ideal training ground before creating her own place, in her own image. Although the space may seem small at first glance, with a first area to sit down, the café is actually huge, with rooms that follow one after the other, allowing it to accommodate several groups at the same time.
All that remains is to choose your medium to start your session: traditional canvas or fabric that can be embellished? Heart-shaped mini pouches, tote bags, eye masks, and other designs await you if you prefer to create an accessory that you can use every day rather than a decoration to hang on the wall. We choose one of each and listen carefully to Louise's explanations, which vary depending on the medium.
Although the workshop is self-guided, she remains nearby to give us advice when needed and guide us towards the best elements. We first have to find inspiration for our painting of the day, which is not always easy, but fortunately, Louise has provided a Pinterest board with a whole bunch of drawings to reproduce as we wish. One of us chose a travel landscape, and the other a small glittery butterfly.
In the huge cabinet with all the necessary materials at your disposal, you choose your colors and, for the fabric, a whole bunch of little accessories including pins, lace, pompoms, stickers, markers of all colors, and other ribbons that catch your eye. Patiently, we layer the paint, add details, sometimes even glitter, using different sizes of brushes, glue, or tracing paper for perfect symmetry, depending on our mood that day.
Meanwhile, Louise bakes the cake of the moment, a delicious vegan carrot cake that is perfectly moist with its sweet icing, and serves us our drink included in the workshop, which is 100% plant-based and changes with the seasons. A welcome gourmet break in the middle of all this artistic concentration! As always with DIY workshops, we come away delighted with our colorful little creations, which show that even without any particular talent, we can always manage!
In addition, every three months, an exhibition is organized to display your creations if you wish, and the best part is that everyone can participate and submit their work to an Instagram vote to see if it will be among the chosen ones! It's worth noting that these workshops are open to everyone, with special sessions for children aged 5 and up, parent-child pairs up to age 15, and even lower prices for students and unemployed people.
Open from 2 p.m. until early evening, the venue also offers aperitif-painting sessions, the only time when drinks can be alcoholic. The Créa'Café is the ideal spot for those who enjoy low-pressure crafts and cozy atmospheres, whether you're just curious, a DIY enthusiast, or simply looking for a moment to unwind with friends, family, or on your own.
It's also an excellent idea for celebrating a birthday, organizing a team-building event, or hosting an original and friendly bachelorette party centered around a fun activity. However, this venue may not be suitable for those looking for a fast-paced activity that needs to be done quickly, visitors who are not particularly sensitive to creative atmospheres, or those who prefer a more structured environment.
Similarly, while you can simply come to warm up with a hot drink—of which there is a wide variety on the menu—this is not necessarily the main purpose of the place, especially since the food menu is limited to just one cake.
