If you haven’t jumped on the matcha bandwagon in recent years because the flavor didn't appeal to you, there's an alternative just a short walk from Saint-Lazare station: meet moringa. This ancient plant, native to India, is packed with numerous health benefits, and can be enjoyed in drinks or added to your dishes. Anne-Sophie invites you to explore it through shared experiences, whether in a discovery workshop or by sampling a delicious takeaway beverage.
Often dubbed the "tree of life," the moringa can thrive even in desert conditions and is cultivated across many regions for its impressive nutritional and medicinal benefits. Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, it’s rich in vitamins and minerals, supports the immune system, helps regulate hormones, and promotes healthy skin…
While seeking a healthy routine and better nutrition, the owner of Moringa Rituals began exploring the versatile plant she encountered during a trip to Africa, gradually making it a staple in her everyday life.
Anne-Sophie is building a brand and opening a boutique centered around a plant cultivated in Senegal. Located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, her offerings include beauty products infused with moringa as well as nutritional powders—an easy way to incorporate the plant into your daily routine, especially through drinks. And you can taste these delicious concoctions (from €4 to €12) all day long!
On the tasting front, homemade recipes featuring vanilla, pear, pistachio, or mango are perfect for a gentle introduction. For those wary of bitterness, moringa offers a surprising twist with notes reminiscent of spinach, which are much more subtle — and more refined — than matcha’s strong herbal flavor. It’s worth noting that while the taste is more approachable, the texture can sometimes leave a slightly grainy sensation on the palate, a characteristic inherent to the ground plant that simply takes some getting used to.
Mixed with date purée and plant-based milk, it even develops a surprisingly chestnut cream flavor, creating a rich and indulgent drink. When combined with pomegranate, the result is light and fruity. Sourcing fresh fruits from the neighboring greengrocer ensures an artisanal quality, though it means careful, small-batch production: the most popular recipes can quickly become a victim of their own success.
Several times a week—whether in the evening or in the afternoon—Maison Moringa offers intimate workshops in a warm, candlelit setting. Participants learn about the plant’s benefits through a fun quiz before rolling up their sleeves to make some moringa-based snacks, customized to suit different dietary preferences.
We started with a simple homemade guacamole, then sprinkled it with moringa—a versatile addition you can easily incorporate into salads or baked goods like French pastries. On-site, you can also find cookies to sample alongside. Interestingly, the moringa's flavor doesn't dominate as much as herbs like Provence, especially compared to the drinks we craft ourselves, customizing them to suit our taste buds.
Plan on spending 30 euros for two hours of green-thumb fun! Special workshops are also available for kids. Whether you're a matcha enthusiast or just curious, in search of superfoods or simply interested in trying something new, this is currently Paris’s only dedicated spot — and the first shop in France entirely focused on moringa!
